Thank your for the thoughtful post and the documentary. I really feel what you mean about the commercialism- or at the least, the lack of true ownership you have in something that you just go into a store and buy. Building something, restoring something, or somehow being involved in the design really changes your perspective on things. The scale and timing of a project shift when you have to figure out what you can really accomplish versus what you can just obtain. I see this ownership and dedication a lot on the small sail and row boat community. On the other hand, I wonder how many people would even get started if the bar for entry was set high? Maybe that's a good thing?
